Memories

Corinne's connection with Pawley's Island goes back further than purchasing the Inn with Bruce. This month, she shares memories

of her lovely, inspirational Mother…

"She was the Belle of the Beach - a lover of dogs, children and great conversation. A gifted listener, she made everyone in her company feel like the most fascinating person in the world. She was endlessly curious and completely addicted to the New York Times Crosswordand Jeopardy. Everyone wanted to sit next to her - be with her - she was absolutely magnetic.

For decades she presided over the rowdiest of our family beach weeks on Pawley's Island, and in her later years, at The Pelican Inn. She loved watching the sun set on the porch where she could hold court with a cigarette and a glass of bourbon - the laughter and conversation dancing in the air around her.

She's gone now, but we are still here and the evening porch  remains to be the best place to meet the most fascinating people in the world. We miss her deeply - but we suspect she is still there listening and laughing with us. Sometimes we are even convinced there is the faintest scent of tobacco and Chanel No. 5.
