Getting Excited…

Dear Friends,

There are parades, and then there is the Pawleys Island 4th of July Parade.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of one of the most beloved traditions on the island, and we couldn't be more proud to call this place home.

It all started in 1966, right here at an inn on Pawleys Island, when a group of guests and families gathered for a small, heartfelt procession to show their love for America and support for soldiers serving in Vietnam. What began as a neighborhood moment, humble, patriotic, and full of heart - has grown into a six-decade tradition that this community holds dear.

And here at The Pelican, we have a few traditions of our own.

It starts with breakfast… because everything good starts with breakfast. Then we set up the Bloody Mary and mimosa bar, gather our people, and head out to take in the parade together.

After that, it's pulled pork barbecue brought in from Cooper's Country Store in Salters, SC, followed by what might be the most anticipated moment of the whole day: the fighter planes roaring over the beach in all their glory.

Goosebumps. Every single time.

And then? Naps for all. No notes.

Sixty years later, that same spirit that started this parade is alive and well. The faces change, the generations turn, but the feeling never does. There is something about this island that makes you want to plant your feet in the sand and celebrate - loudly, joyfully, and together.

We'll be watching with full hearts this July 4th, thinking about everyone who has kept this tradition going year after year, and feeling incredibly grateful to be a small part of this island's story.

From our family to yours, Happy 4th of July, Pawleys Island.

Here's to 60 more.
