Our Fur Babies…

Dear Friends,

It's story time. We get asked all the time about our little creatures that live with us at the Inn. As they spend most of their time behind the scenes, we thought we might share some photos and stories about how they came to us.

We hope you're well and enjoying the beauty of Spring. Summer and our season will be here before we know it!

SKEETER :

This sweet baby came to us as a mischievous little kitten. Stray cats and kittens are not unusual on the island as animal control will often use them to help control the “vermin” in the area. A couple of the cooks over at Chive Blossom found her and we thought she might help keep mice away as an outdoor kitty.

We never intended to have an indoor cat. But she had other ideas. She let herself in and has taken over the place. Bruce said that we could absolutely NOT have a kitten, so she decided to become the office manager.

Her name is short for Mosquito - why? Because she was small, fast and naughty! More fun facts… she walks on a leash and snuggles her stuffed piggy when she naps.

ERNEST & MYRTLE :

We (“we” - meaning Bruce), took the loss of their beloved Basset Hound, Virgil, quite hard. He was truly heartbroken. Virgil was the unruly offspring of champion stock and a truly good boy. A few years on - after Bruce made it clear he wasn't interested in another pup, he came to The Pelican to have a quiet weekend and Corinne surprised him.

On the drive home back to Atlanta, they took a surprise detour. Bruce was presented with a large crate and out tumbled the cutest baby Basset Hound. Then… surprise - out jumped another.

Bruce was overwhelmed and went back and forth trying to decide which of these adorable puppies they would bring home. He turned to Corinne and said, “I can't choose.” Corinne smiled, “Good, because they are both yours.”

Next time you see these critters at the Inn, know that they truly mended Old Man Taylor's heart.
