Guest Profile

It’s May! And you know what that means… our doors officially open in just a couple of weeks. We are as excited as you are to get back into our Summer groove.

In anticipation of our seasonal opening, we wanted to share a guest’s story with you. This month we are featuring one of our regular Summer guests, painter Barbra Yongue. She is a celebrated artist who resides in South Carolina. Barbara is an esteemed member of Oil Painters of America and Trenholm Art Guild. And we’ll see y’all soon!

"My very first visit to Pawley's Island was back in 1988 and I fell IN LOVE. For several years after my husband and I adopted our children we rented a small house, and then I heard about The Pelican Inn. I booked a room for my children and myself and we usually stayed twice a year starting in 2012.

What I truly love about the Pelican is it feels like a family reunion with family you love. Corinne and Bruce are fantastic hosts and there’s no better meal to be had on the island. The Pelican is an inn that is built for family enjoyment.

No cooking and no cleaning  means I can have a vacation and do what I love most which is painting from the dock. Once my children stopped coming, I started bringing fellow artists and other friends that just wanted to relax and get away from everything for a bit.

For me, this place is the perfect vacation and over the years everyone I’ve ever introduced to it always comes back. To say it’s the highlight of my year is an understatement! And I still come twice a year.

With a full breakfast and a big lunch I'm not usually too hungry at night but we always make room for Frank's and the shopping across the causeway is really unique and not touristy.

One of everyone’s favorite things to do, when not at the beach or on the dock, is sitting around on the covered porch admiring the view and talking to the other guests with a cold beverage."
